Call for Papers

A paper is an archival publication of original research in the field of HCI. A paper must generate new knowledge, establish its validity rigorously and position itself with respect to the current work in the field. For example, a paper could propose a new theory, model a concept or describe a new technique. A description of an individual design project would usually not be suitable for a paper (unless it also does some of the above) – it would be suitable for a design case study. Papers will be peer-reviewed on the basis of the quality and originality of the theoretical knowledge, the rigour of validation and thoroughness of references to prior work.
We invite contributions relating to:

  • HCI in the industry of emerging economies
  • HCI contributions in social and economic development
  • HCI for products & services in emerging markets, including for mobile systems
  • HCI and designs for low-literacy users
  • HCI and designs for bottom-of-the-pyramid users
  • HCI for remote contexts (international outsourcing / global software development)
  • HCI responses to a world in recession

Both abstract and papers must be ‘blinded’ for the review process i.e. reference to authors or their organisation must be removed (though authors may refer to their own past work). All submissions must be original and unpublished elsewhere and the authors should own copyright of all material that they present. A submission could be under review somewhere at the time of review of IHCI 2010, but if it was to be accepted in both places, the authors will need to decide which of the two events they would like to finally submit to.

Format
Full and short papers should follow the BCS eWiC format. Templates to help you use this format are available from http://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=nav.7939. Full papers should be no longer than 10 pages following this format. Short papers should be no longer than 4 pages following this format.
