Call for Workshop and Course Proposals

Workshop Proposal

Workshop sessions provide an opportunity to come together and learn in a practical and engaging way about the latest tools, methods and techniques of Design Research, Practice, and Education. They aim to bring together design researchers and design practitioners in academia, public sector, business and industry. Unlike courses, workshops enable both organizer(s) and participants to contribute. We welcome proposals on topics that align with the conference theme “Beyond and behind the screen”. Workshops will take place on 16th December, 2018 at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore. Basic workshop material will be provided based on the workshop plan.

Proposal submission

The proposal must be submitted using EasyChair as one PDF document, with two separate sections:

  1. Workshop Abstract: This should be documented in two pages in the SIGCHI Extended Abstract Template. This will be used for reviewing, for the programme and will be published in the official conference proceedings. This should cover the overall concept of the workshop including key organisers, objectives, theme/topic, target audience, and expected outcomes.
  2. Workshop Plan: The purpose of this document is to understand how the organizers plan to conduct the workshop. This will be used only for the reviewing process. It should cover details on the workshop organisation and duration.

The review process for workshop is not anonymous.

FAQ

What is the difference between a workshop and a course?

If you are looking forward to conduct a session where you expect participants to collaborate and work on a common topic, then please propose it as a workshop. On the other hand, if it is going to be like a class where the participants will focus on learning than contributing back, then please propose it as a course. Second difference is that there are no remunerations for workshop, and course instructors get paid based on the number of registrations mentioned above.
